My First Austin City Limits | What to Pack

I’d never been to a music festival THIS big or crowded. 75,000 people entered the festival each day for the second weekend of Austin City Limits and it was overwhelming, exciting, and just unreal that we were all going to experience music from Pearl Jam, Lorde, Ozomatli, Fitz and the Tantrums, Capital Cities, Zoe, Juanes,  Eminem, Iggy Azalea and Sam Smith (to name a few) together. Even though Saturday at Austin City Limits proved to be extremely muddy, messy and gloomy, acts like Iggy Azalea and Eminem (the best act of all the festival in my opinion)  made it all worth it. The food at Austin Eats was fabulous! Props to them for thinking about having awesome local eats at this huge festival.

Pack This in Your Bag

1) Tall rain boots for unexpected rain, mulch and yucky smelling mud.

2) A Flashlight because after a muddy day comes a dirty and dark walk back through Zilker Park. Trust me, the flashlight is a smart move and don’t rely on your phone for this, its battery will probably be dead by then.

3) Extra battery to charge your phone.

5) Wet Wipes Long lines at the bathroom can be a pain if you just want to wash your hands. These are a must!

6) Blanket for the day concerts was great but a chair would have been delightful after standing for 7 hours straight and dancing.

7) Sweater because Austin is still in the unpredictable Texas weather and one day it’s 90 degrees and sunny, but at night it might drop to 50 degrees.

8) Don’t bring your trendy sneakers or nice shoes. You’ll cry when your cute shoes are full of mud (refer to point 1).

9) Dress comfortably with light fabrics because after all, you will be standing for hours under the sun in a park hearing music and sweating.

The food is something to look forward to at ACL by the way! With food available like Torchy’s Tacos, Salt Lick BBQ, Juiceland green juices etc. it’s OK to wait and not go hungry until 11pm when the day is over. Other than that enjoy all the shots I got and hopefully I’ll be going next year but maybe only for one day—three days end up being extremely exhausting and let’s face it, I’m getting old.

Austin City Limits: Lot’s of color, dancing, flower crowns and people keeping Austin weird. Thank you for making my first time at ACL AWESOME!

(Thank you to my brother Daniel for providing the photos of Iggy, Sam Smith, and the crowd surfing)

See all the fun we had!
