Girl in Ipanema

We left Houston at the start of July for The World Cup in Rio de Janeiro with my husband. It was a to-do on our bucket list and as true die-hard soccer fans this was the opportunity  since his best friend lives in Rio and offered us a place to stay. It was the most magical and sensory-filled trip that we had taken in a while: the samba music on the streets, the beautiful Portuguese language at every corner, soft, white beaches, coco gelado (aka cold coconut water!) at the beach all day every day,  caipirinhas at every meal and the melting pot of cultures united by the same passion: soccer. #YesPlease.

So naturally, I wanted to look as colorful and tropical as possible. I scoured cover ups and bathing suit aisles for the brightest, cutest and most affordable pieces to pack. After all, everything I think about when I hear Brazil is carnival and its technicolor costumes. This was one my favorite cover-ups; a hot pink mesh-y dress by Jessica Simpson that I found at Macys for $20!

As you can see, the cover up is super flattering and it hugs me in all the right places. It was versatile enough to wear at the beach-front restaurant and so easy to take off at the beach. And personally, if you’re curvier like me, I rather wear bright colors than hide beneath a black bathing suit and cover up. I get more compliments wearing color than anything else!

(Thank you to my hubby so patiently took so I could make this first fashion post a memorable one!)
