I have a confession to make. Every night, before entering the grand Wortham Theater for the fashion shows I was looking forward to seeing my blogger pals and start snapping pictures on the red carpet. Scoping out what everyone was wearing, detecting trends and taking the traditional LIQS shot before starting the selfie marathon was a must.

Big trend on the red carpet: ear cuffs (I wore one all week!)
Sometimes you just need a silly “booty” picture
With my partner in crime for the night, Madeline Pena
The show started with four fashion designers (there are only three in this post) from the Art Institute of Houston and their collections on the runway. Once the catwalk was over, the designers walked down the runway with their models. I would have liked to see the names of the designers at the end of the runway because they are relatively unknown. The only designer I know is Paola Contreras from Inclan Studio.
It started with designer Demartini’s runway which was full of minimal pops of color and charming models blowing kisses at the end of the runway. I’ve discovered every designer has a style for their models’ strut down the runway and I love Demartini’s playful twist on hers.
Next: When Inclan Studios stormed into the runway it was pure energy and youthfulness: the party had started. Sometimes, I wonder why more designers don’t put on a show like Inclan or Monsanto. A fashion show of this caliber is meant to entertain as well, if not fully with the clothes, the walk down the runway and the music also have to make you fall in love with the collection and create a feeling, a memory. Do you agree?
228 by L.Yates was a more conservative line with lots of classic shade combinations like gray and red. Even though it had some interesting details like a zipper-slit on a skirt (pictured here) it’s a style I don’t gravitate to.
Rubin Singer’s designs felt edgy, sexy and sophisticated. I saw a lot of very Angelina-esque thigh high skirt slits on the runway as well as delicate lingerie looking pieces that were worn beautifully by the models. Shades of gray, black and white predominated in his runway with this majestic green gown below being a very welcomed pop of color. Here are some of my favorites.
MET Dance gave an avant garde intermission performance
M.C.L by Mathew Campbell Laurenza’s jewelry has been worn by celebrities like Jennifer Lopez, Nicki Minaj, Demi Moore, Oprah Winfrey and Taylor Swift, to name a few. Many long necklaces making a statement by being worn on your back. Hmm…Might have to try this trend next.
At first I thought it was the next designer and this was his first model. Then I realized that it was actually a singer with a back-up dancer/model on the runway. It’s funny because I’m Hispanic and all my gringa friends (who were seated somewhere else in the audience) started texting me and asking me who this was and I had no idea. Nevertheless, Madeline and I sang along with him (an old song by an artist with a similar name, Emmanuel). He later sang a song in English (which I don’t remember because it wasn’t as memorable as his first performance!)
(Emmanuel had a moment with my blogger friend Madeline during his performance)
For Rene Ruiz ‘s runway we jumped into other seats and I was able just to catch a few photos of his catwalk.
Houston Fashion Bloggers: Madeline, Miranda and Alice in the press pit
The grand finale was by Naeem Khan who didn’t disappoint. He started with sparkly sportswear and transitioned to dramatically elegant dresses. Every single dress that came out had the crowd gasping and applauding with it’s intricate beading and vivacious colors. I loved how the models were making those dresses twirl perfectly at the end of the runway. I was coveting the earrings all his models were wearing! They reflected so much light and swayed with every step the model too in unison with their walk.
Amazing right?! I’m still giddy thinking about all his dresses!
Fashion Houston Night 3 coming next!
Thank you to fellow blogger and friend Madeline Pena for taking me with you as your date as part of your LIQS winning tickets! I had so much fun!
