Last week, Rongrong Devoe Illustration, Uptown with Elly Brown, Dolce Delights by Candace Chang, and myself, sat on a panel to discuss our blogging and entrepreneurial careers to a group of 40 women who wish to inquire and delve deeper into the fascinating world of being a blogger, fashion illustrator and dessert shop owner. Burdlife owner, Natasha, reached out to us and organized this panel of very different and very passionate girl bosses. Social Media expert, Lisa from It’s me Lisa, moderated the panel through-out the night. In this day in age everyone can be a digital publisher, influencer and blogger and in order to do it successfully, this panel proved that it takes more than just a pretty face to make it happen.
Dolce Delights by Candace Change provided wine pairings with her wonderful, succulent desserts. Guest mingled and then sat for almost 2 hours hearing the panelists discuss everything from branding, to trademarking and what motivated their career paths. The panelists also had an opportunity to answer questions in between topics.
Enjoy some of the beautiful images shot by Inez Lara Photography that evening! If you missed out on this talk, hopefully you’ll join us next time!
Sweet treats from Dolce Delights with perfect wine pairings.

Here are the most quotable quotes from the evening or at least the ones that stuck out to me:
- Candace Change owner of Dolce Delights “Everybody is going to try to tell you how to run your business so the only thing you can do is stay true to yourself. I only sell things I would eat!” Don’t miss out on trying the macarons and coffee here too! They’re delicious!
- Elly Brown from Uptown with Elly Brown “Trademark your name!” Elly talked about some legal and copyright woes and how trademarking is useful as a blogger. She also stated that “What makes you unique is YOU!” So true!
- Rongrong Devoe from Ronrong Devoe Illustration “I hired an intern and I made a list of everyone I want to work with. Getting my illustration to Victoria Beckham was on my list and now she has it.” OMG! I’m freaking out as I write this because I admire Rongrong’s tenacity and sweetness. #Goals
- Nicole Kestenbaum from Lipstick and Brunch “The most important thing I learned is that you have to work really hard and stay humble, friendly and kind. I also think consistency is key throughout all your social media platforms to be successful and create a brand.”
Thank you to audience member and dear friend Madeline J. Pena of The Loop Lyfe for taking this recap video and letting me include it in this post.
And a HUGE THANK YOU to everyone who made it out to our talk! We really appreciate it and hope that you were inspired, motivated and ready to make blogging a business after hearing us. We are also still learning ourselves but feel privileged to have been able to share what we have learned up to now.
Thank you to Natasha, Rongrong and Lisa for putting this together! Cheers to learning and growing together!
