This is the first time that my hair has ever blown up to look like a lion mane ( like in those Garnier commercials, remember that?). And even then, this straight-haired girl didn’t appreciate all the volume. That’s because frizz, something I had never experienced until I moved to Houston, happened to my hair in a really bad way. Read below to see how I gave my strands a quick pick me up and how I’m maintaining it healthy to keep the frizz away.
So let me tell you how frizz happened to ME! My hair has a tendency to get greasy and I have very little hair. Usually, dry hair is the type of hair that has problems with humidity because it absorbs the humidity like a sponge and POOF, hair puffs up like cotton candy. Because I have been dying and heat-styling my hair so much (and not being a stickler and wearing all my hair treatments that I’ve collected in the shower) my hair dried up, it was brittle and damaged and the first day I stepped out on a humid day in Houston, I noticed the frizz and felt my hair poof up.
To summarize: frizzy hair is thirsty, dry hair in need of hydration!
I alternate between these three hair oils. I like to rub the macadamia (far left) one in my hair at night to wake up with revived strands.
So I ran to Ulta, my go-to place for a quick trim, and got rid of some yucky split ends I had been sporting, and the stylist shared some of her knowledge as I shared my concerns and it’s been working like a charm!
What I’ve Been Doing That Works
- Quick Visible Fix – When your hair is dry, dispense a pump of serum (the size of a Quarter for me but depends on the amount of hair & length) in the lower half of your strands. Then, use your flat iron, at very low heat & flat iron it. This will seal in the serum and visibly make your hair look sleek and soft.
- In The Shower – Leave on a hair treatment for 10 minutes. The Redken Heavy Cream treatment she recommended is amazing!
- Apply an Oil – When you get out of the shower, apply Moroccan oil or Argan oil. Once your hair is dry, you can apply some more oil and follow step 1.
- In Your Purse – If you do not want to get any oil on your hands and need an anti-frizz pick me up, this oil spray by Tara Smith is magical and fits nicely in your purse. It immediately gives you shine and you don’t have to oil up your hands (translation: you can spray your hair in the car. In traffic.).
