Real Life: 6 Ways I Relax At Home | Lipstick and Brunch

I can’t believe it’s Sunday night and the week starts again tomorrow! So here’s why I wrote this post: my hubby works a 9-5 and I work from home which basically means I work until he gets home and whatever time is left after our work day, we love to spend it together. If we can relax together, even better! But, by the end of the work-day all we want to do it eat, watch an episode of Jane the Virgin (or The Bachelorette, which is starting tomorrow! #TotalJojoFan) and then snuggle and fall asleep just to do it all over again next morning. There are some things I do (some we do together!) that help me relax after a stressful day and help me be less moody when he gets home.

* You can add a glass of wine or bubbly to any of the following scenarios below for an extra relaxing experience!

  1. We leave our phone behind & get active! I go out for a walk with husband and our puppy Gala and leave the phone behind. It’s so relaxing to not hear any sounds coming from my cellphone. My husband especially appreciates this since I am on the phone all the time. This is when we have the best talks with my hubby because the focus is on each other and nothing else. Just try it one time. Try it next time you go out and eat with your best friend. I swear this will immediately make you feel relaxed.
  2. Take a long, hot bath/shower. I don’t know about you but when I’m in the shower or bath, I get the best ideas. How cliche! LOL Lately, I’ve been using this delicious-smelling Pomegranate body wash with my loofah or as a bubble bath. Soapbox donates one soap every time you buy one of their products. You can buy them at Target and they have a variety of products like shampoo, conditioner, soap bars and hand wash. Good news: They’re paraben-free!Relkax-with-a-bath
  3. Aromatherapy. I believe in the power of scents to make you feel better. Lavender and citrus are two of my favorite scents and you’ll notice that if you ever walk through my door. My Bath and Body Works lavender aromatherapy body and pillow spray (not shown) welcome me with a soothing and calming scent before bed. The Body Shop’s Oils of Life sleep mask is a relaxing burst of citrus on my face and it induces happy thoughts as I fall asleep.

Hada Labo sent me these sheet and eye masks and I can’t help but notice my face and eye-area is super hydrated and soft after I put them on. The hyalronuic acid in these products help me retain water in my skin because yes, even oily combination skin needs hydration! Relax-with-skincare-products

Yes, you’ll look super creepy for 20 minutes but your baby-butt soft face will thank you.

5. Cook. We recently signed up to Blue Apron and we are loving it! We both love to cook but are so busy sometimes that it gets difficult to get creative in the kitchen. With Blue Apron, we get home, a surprise recipe is waiting for us and the past 4 times every dish has been delicious, quick to prepare and bigger portions than we expected.  Also, we love the idea of cooking together with fresh, seasonal ingredients.

We ate lighter version of General Tso’s Chicken last week! Looks very much like the recipe card, don’t you think?

6. Read! No, don’t scroll down Facebook and read everyone’s posts and no, don’t go on Instagram to read all the cute, clever captions from your favorite Instagrammers. Actually lose yourself in an entertaining, uplifting book. These are some I have read and that are very inspirational: “The Sweet Life” by Latina beauty vlogger Dulce Candy, The Grace Coddington Memoir and “Leave Your Mark” by Aliza Light.
